Sales Tip No. 1: Speak their learning and languaging preference
We use all 5 senses in learning and speaking, ie sight, sound, touch, smell and taste. And yet, we are genetically hard-coded with one which is our dominant languaging preference. You can tell by listening to the words or phases people use.

<p>We use all 5 senses in learning and speaking, ie sight, sound, touch, smell and taste. And yet, we are genetically hard-coded with one which is our dominant languaging preference. You can tell by listening to the words or phases people use.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>For example:</p>
<p><strong>Visual</strong>: see, looks like, picture this, view, show me</p>
<p><strong>Auditory:</strong> hear, tell me, music to my ears, rings bells</p>
<p><strong>Kinesthetic</strong>: feel, sense, in touch, feels solid, grasp.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Effective salespeople are able to  track for the persons dominant <strong>languaging preference</strong> and then match it by talking the same way. This builds incredible rapport at a sub-conscious level.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>If a person has a <strong>visual preference</strong>, (s)he will tell you in the conversation with the words that are used… example, “I <strong>see</strong> what you mean, but I don’t have a <strong>clear picture</strong> of how it applies to me!”</p>
<p><strong>BUT</strong> if you are an <strong>auditory person</strong>, you might reply “ok, well let me <strong>tell</strong> you about it again in respect to your needs, and let you <strong>hear</strong> how it applies”. <strong>You have sub-consciously snapped rapport!</strong></p>
<p> </p>
<p>Talk their language (<strong>visual preference),</strong> not yours <strong>(auditory preference)</strong>. A better response would have been ‘Ok, well let me <strong>show</strong> you the <strong>big picture</strong>, and you will <strong>see</strong> where you fit in the overall <strong>picture</strong>”.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>My overall advice:</strong> Track for the languaging preference and match it!</p>

<p><strong>Sales Tip No. 2: Match their speed of voice!</strong></p>
<p>Particularly over the phone, this is one way to create strong rapport and sameness. If you are a slow and deliberate talker, and are speaking to a fast-talker, you will snap rapport at a sub-conscious level. Speed up a touch to increase the <strong>LIKENESS</strong>. Conversely, slow down if they are a slow thinker and talker. Nothing snaps rapport faster than someone finishing your sentences for you does.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><p><strong>Sales Tip No. 3: Master the art of subtle body language &#8211; matching and mirroring</strong></p>
<p>This one needs to be subtle, or it can come across as mimicking. And yet, if done well, builds very strong rapport.</p>
<p>Ever notice yourself adopting the same tilt of the head, or stance, or seated position as the person you are talking to? It is very nature process that occurs over time when parties are comfortable with one another.</p>
<p>We can fast-track rapport through the use of <strong>body language</strong>. I prefer to avoid direct copying, and apply what’s called cross-matching or mirroring. In other words, if they cross their arms, I cross my legs. If they lean on one elbow with hand in face, I just put my hand near my face. Subtle, and yet there is a LIKENESS. Again. People like people who are like them!</p>
<p><em><strong></strong></em> </p>
<p><em><strong>A final word</strong></em>… Something I pre-suppose to be true is this… There is no such thing as resistance, just insufficient rapport building! What if it is true? If a potential client is resisting, stop selling, and go back to rapport building. You have more work to do yet!</p>

Thus, you have to give them a good reason to make them want to read your business sales letter from start to finish.</p>
<p>How to Make People Read Your Business Sales Letter from Start to Finish</p>
<p>Tip #1 Start with the Date. <br />
Business owners who are new to creating and sending sales letters actually forget this vital fact. The date must be when you expect your readers to receive your sales letter: you can usually pinpoint the exact date if you&#8217;re using express or special delivery.</p>
<p>For regular snail mail, you&#8217;d have to consult with your local post office when&#8217;s the likely earliest &#8211; not the latest because if they receive the letter earlier than the date written on the sales letter then this could lead to confusion or worse, create an issue of distrust &#8211; date they&#8217;d receive it.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s important that you date your sales letter as recent as possible because people are often only concerned about the present. Anything in the past would deem unimportant and anything in the distant future would be relegated to the next-time pile of mail to be forgotten later on. If you want an effective start for your business sales letter, you need to know that what you&#8217;re writing about concerns the present.</p>
<p>Tip #2 Personalize It.<br />
This has been said over and over and over, but a lot of businesses still make the mistake of allowing their laziness to mass-produce their business sales letters with &#8220;To Whom It May Concern&#8221; or &#8220;Dear Sir / Madam&#8221;.</p>
<p>Impersonal sales letters almost always get thrown in the garbage. Customers think along the lines of &#8220;If I&#8217;m not important enough to merit a letter addressed to me personally, then the letter doesn&#8217;t merit my personal attention as well&#8221;. You may not have meant to offend anyone, but it&#8217;s a fact that others do find such an impersonal approach bordering on the offensive.</p>
<p>Take the time to know the first or last name of your recipients. If you are writing to existing customers, personalize your sales letter all the more by writing one or two sentences about specific details of your business-customer relationship with the recipient. </p>
<p>You can, for instance, draw attention to the number of years the customer have been with you with lines like &#8220;We at Blank Company are delighted that you&#8217;ve still continued to trust in our management ever since you opened your account in 2002&#8243;. These details won&#8217;t take too long or hard to find, but they&#8217;ll mean a lot to your customers. It shows them that you care enough to know about each and every client.</p>
<p>As for prospective customers, it would be nice if you can mention a thing or two about why you think it would benefit the two of you to have a business relationship. Again: research, research, research!</p>
<p>Tip #3 Hook then Reel<br />
The first paragraph represents the hook in your business sales letter. In your first paragraph, the essence of your letter must be explained clearly and concisely. An irresistible one-liner is great, one that makes the reader want to know some more about what you&#8217;re offering.</p>
<p>As the paragraphs continue on, make sure that you&#8217;re gradually reeling them closer and closer. Make the kill by finishing off with a strong call for action: make it appear that it&#8217;s imperative for them to avail of your product or service as soon as possible!</p>
<p>Tip #4 Signed by the Top Boss<br />
At the end of it, make sure that it&#8217;s your company&#8217;s highest executive &#8211; say Bill Gates for Microsoft &#8211; who signs the letter. Yes, customers are smart enough to know that a printed signature could mean your head honcho wasn&#8217;t able to read every single sales letter he&#8217;s sending out, but it would still mean a lot to them knowing that someone as mighty powerful as your boss cared about retaining or inviting them to jump on board your company.</p>

<p>Everyone talks about strategy, but do we really understand it?</p>
<p>There are two types of strategy-business strategy and sales strategy. Strategy, at it&#8217;s core, is &#8220;how will we accomplish our goals?&#8221; But business strategy is very different than sales strategy. I&#8217;ll leave business strategy to the big boys-Tom Peters, Jim Collins and the rest.</p>
<p>We&#8217;ll talk about sales strategy today. Because in our sales training business we find companies have spent very little time on sales strategy. Yet, it is the very thing that can propel enormous sales and revenue growth. Sales strategy is the &#8220;how&#8221; of &#8220;how will we approach our clients and acquire them?&#8221; Cold calling is a strategy. Direct mail is a strategy. Neither are optimum, but both can work. I prefer companies have a multi-point sales strategy. And &#8220;referrals&#8221; should ALWAYS be a component of it.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s an example of one of our clients who came to us for help.</p>
<p>They had 3500 customers across the midwest. Their chosen strategy though, was to ignore a &#8220;referral&#8221; strategy and focus on prospects they didn&#8217;t know-commonly known as a &#8220;cold call&#8221; strategy. Absurd.</p>
<p>My Suggestion:</p>
<p>My belief is that a sound sales strategy should make things easier-not harder. So if you have 3500 customers, I wouldn&#8217;t make even ONE cold call. I would do several things:</p>
<p>1. Do a Case Study (&#8220;white paper&#8221;)</p>
<p>Go back to those customers and do a &#8220;white paper&#8221; on how the solution impacted their business. Have a professional interview several contacts at the client, then get it transcribed and put it into a 3-5 page &#8220;study.&#8221; Then take that study and offer it on the website (get emails before you let people download it) and it becomes your brochure. Throw out all the brochures that puff about how good you are-and use the white paper to do that for you-in the words of your clients. There are even companies who do white papers (for about $2000).</p>
<p>2. Have a Seminar (User Forum) for Your Clients and Invite Prospects</p>
<p>Or have your customers invite their associates. I have yet to see a company who is selling their current customers EVERYTHING they could. There seems to be so much &#8220;testosterone&#8221; around conquering the new account that we forget about easy ways to do it.</p>
<p>3. An Educational Strategy</p>
<p>I would say one half of your prospects don&#8217;t know the scope of what you do-nor do they know how to think about your category of solution. Therefore, education is in order. You must educate them-not to how great you are (that&#8217;s a common blunder) but to what kind of pain they may be feeling without your solution. Every marketing book says that people are on a continuum from UNAWARE to ACTION. One stop on that continuum is COMPREHENSION-meaning, they comprehend that they have a problem worth solving.</p>
<p>These are a few of the many sales strategies that we use in our practice of helping sales teams increase revenue. I hope these can help you do the same.</p>
